Chairperson’s Chinwag- The first of 2019 (Jan)

Kyran beating Ashleigh in backstroke 😉
Well hello troops!!

I hope everyone has had an awesome festive period! I certainly have! Spoiled from friends and family, eaten tons, drunk loads and now it’s time to return to ‘Fish mode’ 🙂 whoopee!

Oooh… As I am typing we have just had a second mini power cut!! Darkness was upon us there!! But only for a couple of seconds- I knew going into the attic was a bad idea earlier :-O Spooooky!!!

Anyway… You’ll be pleased to hear I don’t have too much info for you just now, so this should be short and sweet!

Firstly, we missed our Christmas social this year! We (believe it or not) did vote on a date way back at a meeting at the end of summer time but unfortunately it slipped by us all! So.. maybe at training we could have a wee informal chat and a vote on a wee bevy session at the start of February when people have been re-aquainted with ‘pay day’!!

It’s almost time to get organised for our AGM. Yeaa!! We need as many people as possible to attend our AGM. We’ve had a few of the same people doing the same jobs in the club for a while now and it’s only fair we all take a wee turn in doing a wee job every now and then! Also, we love to hear fresh ideas and input whilst we’re discussing things so please, when you hear the date- which will probably be in February sometime. Get along and get involved!!

Our events guru Andrew.B has been keeping us posted on swim comps happening all over the UK on our WhatsApp chat. Remember if there’s something you fancy, let everyone know so that we can get involved, share lifts and accomodation etc.

The next big event that more of us should consider this year, is the Scottish Masters Championships. It’s happening Friday 19th April and Saturday 20th April. I’m almost sure it’s at the commonwealth pool in Edinburgh.. Mr.B will confirm that for us!

Kyran, Nikki, Julie, Andrew.B and I had an awesome session on Thursday! A lane all to ourselves as well! I hope we’ll see more people back to it on Tuesday though!!

And guess what??! That’s all for tonight folks! I said short and sweet and that’s what you got!!

Actually, one last thing! The new rota is on the WhatsApp chat! I will get it printed off and on the notice board asap!! If anyone wants to be added to it, taken from it or needs a swap please get in touch!

Thanks for your time guys!

Enjoy what’s left of the weekend!

Over and out Fish Peeps.

Chairperson’s Chinwag- May edition 2018

Well hello there everyone!

Let me introduce myself! I am Ashleigh! Mother of one dragon, chairperson of Perth Masters Swimming Club and a very disorganised author of the ‘Chairperson’s Chinwag’!

Last time you received such a quality article would have been February 😮😂😂 I can only apologise for my lack of communication, things have been awfully busy recently… 🙄

It’s been fantastic to see several new faces in the pool! The newbies who have come along to train have hung on in there and have reappeared at several sessions! 😀👍 Whoohooo!! Stay with us guys, just remember your membership forms (which you’ll find on the website) along with payment info!

A huge well done to coach Roddy who has completed his Level 1 coaching qualification! 🏊🎓 Roddy enjoyed it so much he has immediately enrolled in the Level 2 course 👍😀 Fab job Roddy! Thanks so much for you time and effort and also for those awesome technique sets you’ve been throwing at us on Thursday nights!!

In other news….

Only 3 brave swimmers made it to the Scottish Short Course Championships in Tollcross last month… Steve, Jules M and Sandy went along and gave it everything!

Sandy completed his 200m breast in a time of 4.14’30 placing 2nd in that race.

Jules, getting a fantastic 3rd place finish in her 200m freestyle in a time 3.08’16.

And oor Steve, falling in love with the 100m fly 😂 (hehehe) in a time of 1.40’92.

Well done to you all for smashing your swims and representing our club at the Champs!! 💪 Whoop whoop!!

Next… To our very own Nikki Murphy! Our local globe trotter has been away in the miserable country of Spain 😕 I mean really, it’s only 24°C over there, with a water temperature of around 20°C, the sun in the sky….. Meanwhile she’s been missing out on the gloriously crystal clear water of Perth Leisure Pool at the wonderfully cosy temperature of 29°C…..

Hmmmm 😑 I think I know where I’d rather be 😉

Seriously though, Nikki has been pulling off some awesome swims!! She completed a 9km charity swim (in the sea!!) in an amazing time of 2hours and 47mins! She has been competing in the pool also alongside her Spanish team mates and managing some podium place finishes in the relays! Nikki says she’s coming home in about 10 days but I’m sure when I checked her schedule she’s still to do a 5.8km Oceanman swim round an island AND round one swim of the Cup of Spain??!! Jesooo!! I’m knackered thinking about all of that!! All we have to say to you Nikki is.. Well done!! 💪 You are awesome and we are very impressed!! 😉

Please, on your way home could you bottle up the Spanish ‘Nikki Swim Faster Juice’ for us though…. I feel I’m in desperate need of a bottle of motivation 😉👍

Also, I would like to send a big thanks to Andrew Bailey who has been sourcing and keeping us informed of different galas happening in the Masters world on the Whats App chat! Not always do you get responses from us Andrew, but it’s great to click the links and dream of the medals we could be winning all over the world!! Thank you! 👍

Another thank you, to our Tech Guru McManus… He has been busy busy busy on his computer working on a nice update for the website… The update hasn’t gone live yet, but when it does it should look cleaner and work much better on mobile devices! I shall inform you all when the website changes!

Next to talk about, is our summer social… Kyran sent out a survey Via the What’s App chat for everyone to pick their preferred date in July for a family club social.
The survey was sent out after the AGM in February and of the 32 participants in the group chat a whole 8 responses were recieved!! Wow… 😳
Anyway, the preferred date is Sat 14th July!

You’ll be please to hear I have managed to book the sunshine for the day 👌 yippeee!! The social will be at Quarrymill. All you need to do is write the date on your calendar, bring the family, bring your own food and drink and relax!! There are fire/BBQ pits there already so closer to the time we’ll get organised with the necessary fire starting equipment 😀

Don’t worry troops… We are nearing the end of this short story!!! Stay with me!!

Greenock 21/09/18!! Get it in your diary’s! It’s the only gala over the last few years that a large number of the team have gone along to and taken part at…. It’s such good fun, friendly, great value for money and usually we come away having been pretty successful!! Some of us travel through on the Friday, swim the 800m freestyle on the Fri evening and then we stay till the Sunday. After the gala on the Saturday, Inverclyde Masters usually put on food and a Ceilidh which is always great fun! If your considering a gala this year, you should definitely aim for this one!!

So far I think the rota has been working well for our Tuesday night training! We’ve had loads of variety with the different sets! I will do another rota following on from what is on the notice board and if anyone else would like to join in and be coach for one night only please let me know and I’ll add you in… 👍😀

And finally 😂 Last, but not least….. The notice board!!

Yes, it is my job to decorate it and make it look pretty… Yes it has been over a year since I took the job of ‘decorating the board’ and yes, it’s blank and looks exactly like it did a year ago!!! I want to make it eye catching, I said I would, I haven’t but I will… 🙄 Honestly… I’m getting to it!!

Well there you go. Another month, another Chinwag. I hope this hasn’t been too boring for you all!!!

Thanks for reading! And remember…

We swim because we are too sexy for a sport which requires clothes!!! 😉😂

Over and out troops! See you Tuesday!!

Ashleigh

Chairperson’s Chinwag- February

Hey troops!!

I hope we are all well!! I can’t believe we are 2 months through the year already! Where the time has gone?!! The pool has been looking busier in the evenings and we have some new faces in the pool which is great to see!
Our club AGM was held about 3 weeks ago and minutes will be written up and available for anyone who is interested in having a read of them in depth…. HOWEVER….. Here are a few of the more important things for everyone to note from the meeting =D
1- Most importantly- MEMBERSHIP!! Trudy has the very important job of getting us all organised and signed up to SASA. Please get online to our website, download and fill out your membership form and get it back to myself or Trudy ASAP!
Then comes the painful part….. Paying your money, we need the money to the club by Tuesday please guys =) Club BACS info is on the form if you wish to bank transfer. Just remember to put your name on as the reference so we know you’ve paid!
Much appreciated guys!!
2- Next….. We have a follow up meeting on Tuesday 6th March at 8.30pm just to confirm and go over dates, locations and organisers for the social events that were suggested at the AGM. Anyone welcome to come along, just be prepared to be given a job!!! Whoohoooo =D
3- Lastly….. Coaching! At the meeting, we decided on doing a rota for Tuesday nights.
Coach Erin has gone to a new job working shifts, and we thought it would be helpful for all swimmers if we have someone poolside to provide the session and give hints and tips where needed!
Those who agreed to coach have been included on the rota. It’s completed up until the end of May so far, and you’ll find it on the notice board (beside lift) at the pool. I’ll take a photo and send it on the Wats app for everyone too.
Please get in touch if you are on the rota and can’t make your night and we’ll get a wee swap organised! Also if you fancy a shot on poolside, let me know and I’ll get you added in!
P.s. Coach Erin will make some surprise
appearances when she can, so NO slacking people!! =D
Phewww… And breathe guys!! That’s the boring and important stuff over!!
Before we move on though….
Remember, Trudy has my permission to throw flippers at anyone who does not complete and return membership forms asap!!
Keep your eyes peeled on the club notice board guys! I said last year I would make it pretty…. I failed!! It looks the same, but with less on it than when I agreed to fix it up!!
This year however, by the middle of march, I will do my best to have it looking a wee bit more eye catching and exciting!
OK, on a more exciting note… events and competitions!
Check out the long course training camp. It’s on the 10/3/18 at Tollcross and it’s for 2 days. Our very own Trudles went to a training day earlier on in January and she thought it was brilliant! Trudy has already booked herself into this camp for the weekend so anyone wanting more info, check it out on the Scottish Swimming website and have a wee word with her!!
The Scottish National Short Course Championships are 20/4/18 for 2 days. Our competition guru Mr Andrew.B has informed us this event may be rather busy due to other things going on in the swimming calender, however it’s a great one to get a starting point for the year. It’s also on Scottish Swimming website for you!
Inverclyde Masters is our favourite event of the year!! It’s on 21/9/18 for 2 days. This is the friendliest and most fun event we have found so far! More details to come closer to the time, but basically it’s a full on, crazy, fast paced weekend of racing, dancing and drinking!! Some of the troops go on Friday and return on the Sunday. All I can say is, get your holidays in now guys!!
I know that was very brief couple of events I’ve popped up there but our Andrew has been very good at keeping us up to date with different competitions from different locations in the UK. There always getting posted on our Facebook or on Wats app so please keep yourself in the loop!!
Wow… If anyone has managed to get to the end of this chinwag, congratulations!!
It’s only taken me 3 days to write!!! =P
I’m off for now!! Have a great weekend troops and we’ll see you on Tuesday evening for another dose of pain from another kind, volunteer coach!!

Whoohoo!!

Again, thanks for reading guys!!
Over and out!

Chairperson’s Chinwag- The first of 2018

Hello all,

Whoohooo!!

It’s 2018 and we are getting right back into the swing of things at the pool! We had coach Erin last night who worked us hard with a nice swim swim swim set!! =D

No rest for the wicked!!

Just one eensie weensie little thing to ask from you all…

We are due to have our Club AGM- The date we have decided on is Tuesday the 6th February! The meeting will take place at the pool at 8.15pm, before swimming.

In order to have a successful meeting we need people to come along and join in! We need your ideas and input on the decisions that the committee have to make.

So much work goes on behind the scenes to keep the club running and it’s definitely time that we get some new members on the committee to help us out.

So, Tuesday 6th Feb, 8.15pm, at the pool. We’ll see you all there!!

That’s my lunch break over and done with, so I shall leave this chinwag short and sweet!!

Look forward to the 2nd edition of the chinwag in February after the AGM!!

It will have much more exciting news to report 😉

Over and out all!!

Ashleigh

Chairperson’s Chinwag- DECEMBER, The last of 2017!!

Hello to all of my fellow fishy friends!
I hope we are all organised and ready for Santa coming to town 🙂 We’re less than 2 weeks away now!!

A wee update on training over the festive period… I believe our last day swimming will be Thursday the 21st December and our first night back will be Tuesday the 9th January!!

Remember the pool will be open over the holidays (check for festive opening times) but if your anything like me you’ll be busy eating your body weight in crap and drinking too much funny juice, then complaining about it, only to come to the conclusion that its Xmas and that’s what you should do, to then start again an hour later with the whole eat, complain, conclude cycle  😀

Trudy of course has not even started her Christmas shopping!! She has been far too busy getting orders from us for our Xmas social meal… I hope everyone had gotten there selves a place on the nice list by giving Trudy all the info she needs…. If not, your on the naughty list and you’ll have to go hungry!! =O Remember if you have signed up, its this weekend- the 16th  December, 1pm – 3pm training at the pool then over to Dewars for 4pm for our meal and drinks (even into town afterwards if you fancy)!! Cost for those who have signed up is £24. This covers our 3 course meal, a glass of prosecco on arrival at Dewars 😉 (woohoo!!) and lane hire for the 2 hours!!

Anyone who hasn’t signed up but fancy’s a social…. You’ll find us at Dewars, upstairs beside the bar 😀 from 4pm till at least 7pm…. We may take the party to town after!
Back to swimming for a moment- Andrew Bailey has been keeping up his role of events finder!! He’s already been on our WatsApp chat with info regarding the first swim meet of 2018!! It’s at the end of January up in Aberdeen, hosted by Silver City Blues. It might be a good one to gauge how unfit we have become over the festive period 😀 hehehe!!

Anyone who would like to go, or is interested or needing more info feel free to give Trudy, Andrew or myself a shout! I haven’t heard that anyone has signed up as of yet, but that may change over the next couple of weeks!
Well troops… I do believe this Chinwag has come to an end!! The next time I write to you it’ll be 2018 and I’ll be looking more like a submarine than a fish 🙂
Please remember… ‘Life is cool in the pool, because swimmers rule’

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!!!
Over and out!!!
Ashleigh

Chairperson’s Chinwag- Sept 2017

Well hello to everyone!

I’ve found myself failing in the Chinwag department this year… Gone are the days where you got a magical email every month! (Phew, some of you are probably saying! :D)

However…. This is nearly the end of September and I haven’t been in touch with you all about the success of our ‘smaller than normal team’ in Greenock, at the Annual Inverclyde meet, which took place at the start of the month. So here goes….

With our team only 8 strong we weren’t sure how things were going to pan out for us. We’ve been pretty successful with top 3 finishes over the last 2 years but in the past we’ve taken many more swimmers! On the Friday evening; Trudy, Nikki, Sandy, Steve, Andrew, Kyran and Ashleigh kick started the event with fantastic swims in the 800m Free! Everyone was pretty pleased with their performances and an extra shout has to go out to our Trudles- who had done next to no training in the month leading up to the gala and was feeling a wee bit diseased for the few days before the gala!!

You can bet where the troops ended up after the 800m Free… And if you can’t guess, you’d best get your butts along to next years competition and you’ll soon find out!!! #NotInThePub #WeAreAthletes

20170908_214346[2131]

Saturday’s action came thick and fast. We had meet records from Sandy, and the amazing Julie had come along to join us at her first ever gala! She blew everyone away with huge PBs in all 5 events she took part in! There were ribbons galore at the lunch table!!

Saturday evening brought a fandabbydossie social night!! Good food was involved, as well as an awards ceremony and a ceilidh! Our Trudles, managed to finish 3rd in her age group over all, Sandy finished as a winner in his age group and Kyran and Ashleigh also took their age group titles.

Soooo….. where did Perth Masters end up over all I hear you ask? Well….. (drumroll please….)

THIRD!!!! 😀 Yeeeaaaaah!

Amazing!! A huge well done to everyone who took part! What a brilliant effort from you all over the whole of the weekend!!

Rightio… On to matters new…..

As you will have probably heard, the pool with be closing for a week to recieve a nice wee refurbishment! This means no training for us on the 31st October and the 2nd of Novemeber.  Trudy has kindly organised a lane for us, in Stirling on Tues 31st from 8 – 10pm. The pool will be 50m 🙂 ooooohhhhh!!! However, please get in touch with Trudy or myself, to confirm your intentions to go. We only have the one lane and we want to make sure it’s fun for everyone so spaces may be limited!

Next on my agenda- Swim meets.

The Scottish Masters 1500m Short Course Championships are in Edinburgh at the Commonwealth pool. It’s on the 4th November. Any other mentalists who which to join our Trudy and Nikki, please feel free to get in touch with them or Google about how to enter etc.

There is a gala in November in Prestonpans (Edinburgh-ish). Andrew and I have been the only ones to attend the meet from our club for the last 2 years. Its a good day, although the poolside is can be chilly. We leave Sat am and return in the evening. (Psssstt… There’s medals for each individual event!!!) Its Saturday the 18th Nov this year. Again, anyone interested in entering, get in touch with Andrew or Ashleigh.

Well guys, I think I’ll end it there. It must be just about supper time!!

Just a wee note before I go. Please don’t leave us just because the nights are getting darker… Get wrapped up cosy and get down to the pool for a nice training session and a good bleather! And remember, lets keep with the blue shoes or the shoes off in the changing areas, especially as the weathers getting a tad winter like.

Thanks for reading everyone!

Peace out…….. from your friendly neighbourhood Chairperson.

August Chinwag

Hello there to all of you pool troopers!!

😀

Training has been fairly quiet over the holiday period… I hope you’ve all enjoyed some time off or time away! We look forward to seeing everyone back to training and some kind of normality resuming over the next couple of weeks!!

Please keep your eyes peeled on the new kit some of us have purchased 😀

Trudy did a grand job getting us all organised with the correct items we ordered!! If anyone sees anything they think they might like please get in touch with Trudy or myself. We have a minimum order number so you might have a wee wait before we can put an order away but hey… Nice kit comes to those who wait! 🙂

Just a wee reminder to everyone about the Greenock meet in September. It’s the most fun and relaxed event we’ve found on the swimming calender so far, and the last few years have been really successful for the club. Its the weekend of the 9th September. For more info and to enter visit Inverclyde Masters website. Feel free to ask those who have already attended about how awesome the weekend is!!

YOU MUST ENTER BY THE 25TH AUGUST!!!!!!!!

Or you’ll miss out!!

Hope that’s clear enough!!!

Also, once you’ve entered, please let Andrew Bailey, Trudy or myself know. Just so we can get relay teams organised!! 😉

Much appreciated!!

Thanks for reading all!!

See you tomorrow!!

Good night,

Ashleigh

British Masters Swimming Champs 2017

Hello troops!! Welcome to a cheeky little 2nd edition of June’s Chinwag…. A wee update on how the British Champs went for the team!! 😁

Aberdeen was the place to be last weekend, with the British Masters Swimming Championships being held in the amazing facilities at The Aberdeen Sports Village. Five of our awesome swimmers made the journey up north to take part in the competition over the 3 days.

Friday saw Trudy take on the 1500m freestyle and she did so in style with a cracker of a pb!! Andrew and Ashleigh took on the 100m backstroke, no PBs to be found there however Andrew did find himself in second place brining home some silverware! The evening session saw 2 outstanding performance from our Kyran in his 50m breaststroke and 200m IM which saw him sealing 3rd place in both!!

The 2nd day of racing saw Graeme Hunter get involved in the action, he took part in the 100m free, 50m free and the  50m fly, in which he picked up a silver and a bronze medal!!

More magnificent performances came from Trudy in her 400m free, a wee PB from Ashleigh in her 50m back and 50m fly, Andrews fabby time in his 100m free and Kyran’s silver medal came in his 100m breast!!

By the end of day 3 we had a knackered Trudy and Andrew, who had just completed their 800m free and an awesome combination of around 5 PBs and a fantastic 7 medals for the Perth bunch!!

For those of you who enjoy fishing, there was an outstanding catch for Andrew in the pool! 😂 He managed to hook himself an athlete using banana as bait… Don’t believe me? Check out the photo evidence coming up!!

Hahahaha!!! Told you so!!!

Phew…. After all that typing I think I need a weekend off 😜 Arn’t you a lucky bunch though, getting a 2nd June Chinwag in the same month 😉

Enjoy what’s left of the weekend!!

Over and out!!
PS. Keep your eyes peeled on your emails for info on the cost of kit that has been ordered!!

Now really…

Over and out!!!

Ashleigh

Bonjour,

I hope all is well with you wonderful fish like people! I hope everyone has had, or has planned for the near future, some awesome summer holiday trips…

I’ll start this month’s Chinwag by letting you all know that my super dooper exciting 12hr swim has been cancelled

😦 Boooo!!

Not only could we not come up with a team but it appears some of the other clubs are also out, so unfortunately it had to be called off- I am secretly happy about this 😀 It means we’re not missing out on an amazing swim to France in the middle of Saturday night!

We have 5 brave souls making there way up north next weekend to take part in th British Masters Championships!!! How awesome is that??!! We were unable to get a Perth Masters relay team sorted in time for the deadline date but just to have swimmers heading off to represent our club is fantastic!!

Good luck to all involved! Have fun and swim fast!!

Everyone… Please remember to check out our Facebook and Twitter feeds for updates on the journey over the weekend of the 16th – 18th June! Remember guys- get those fingers busy with likes, favourites, retweets and shares pleeease 😀

Sooo… time to get down to business people! This next part needs a response from you!! Please read and reply!!!

Trudles and I have been checking out club kit for a while now.

We’re looking at;

+ navy blue polo shirts

+ navy blue hoodys

+ navy blue shorts

Kit will be embroidered with the same thistle logo as previous club kit, however we’re hoping to have ‘Perth Masters’, written above the thistle logo and ‘Swim Club’, written below the emblem.

The swim cap design will also remain the same.

At the moment we don’t have exact prices for each of the items as we are waiting for info about the embroidery. However here are rough price estimates;

+ Polos – £17

+ Hoodys – £27

+ Shorts – £17

+ Caps – £6

We aren’t looking for exact orders yet, however we are interested in finding out who would like what?

Anyone who is interested in purchasing some of our club kit, please reply by Tuesday 13th June. Ither by email, Wats app or by speaking to me or Trudy directly.

We can then let the company know roughly how many items we wish to order and if we’re lucky, they might even apply a small discount on our order!!

I think that’s all for tonight troops!!

Hopefully we’ll see you all tomorrow for some dooking and diving at the pool!!

#Sweetdreams

Over and out 😀
